Here’s my advice to activist groups: go for a more extreme version of what you want and then back down to what you really want.

Always go for “mandatory XYZ for everyone” so you have the option to negotiate and end up with “legalized XYZ” like you want. For example, why not asking for “mandatory gay marriage for everyone,” “mandatory abortion for everyone,” or “mandatory weed for everyone?”

This also exposes fake rights movements. Nobody is really fighting for “legalized not wearing durka” or “legalized higher taxes.”
