So, what do other expats reply when asked where they’re from or about their nationality?

When asked in NL, I typically respond “originally from Denmark, but living in Eindhoven for 4 years” (I have not entirely come to terms with the fact that it’s half a decade in just a few months.) Also, sometimes the answer is in bad Dutch instead.

When asked outside NL, my short answer is “Dutch” and my longer answer “Dutch but originally from Denmark” or “Originally from Denmark, but living in the Netherlands for a long time.”

When asked in DK (yes that happens, I’ve apparently put on an accent and sometimes turn to English instead of Danish…), my answers are the same as normally outside NL though often in bad Danish instead.
